Siddartha Gautama apparently walked this planet some two thousand years ago.
His teachings began in India and have slowly spread across all of Southeast Asia. In his reverence, communities have built large monuments and temples to remind themselves of the enlightened man’s existence.
Buddhism is known for the basic understanding that all life is suffering, Siddartha had this realization and sought out to find the cure to this ailment of humanity. Apparently we live through cycles of birth, death, and rebirth that keep us tied to this earthly realm. Buddhists seek to liberate themselves from this cycle so that they can find Nirvana, or the ultimate joy. While there are many branches of Buddhism that exist today with different practices and versions of the story, these ideas still maintain consistency.
Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.
